Rodrigo Vela—known locally as “El Maestro”—has spent more than 30 years teaching in rural Colombian schools and currently serves as president of the ASOPEP board of directors. Alongside his work in education, he has long been president of the community action board for La Armenia, the village where the Los Guayabos farm is located.
On his family farm, Los Guayabos, Rodrigo oversees all natural processing to protect local waters and enhance the coffee’s flavour profile. His commitment to clean processing has earned the farm recognition for producing coffees with exceptional clarity and character.
Rodrigo lives on the farm with his wife, his youngest daughter, and his two sons—one studying agronomy and the other soon to graduate as a sociologist. Their work and stewardship reflect the deep pride that runs through this remarkable microlot.
